In an increasingly interconnected world, the profound impact of globalization on social structures and cultural dynamics has become a subject of paramount importance. This article delves into the multifaceted facets of globalization's transformative influence on social matrices and culture, shedding light on the intricate interplay between the global and the local. Globalization, characterized by the intensified flow of information, people, goods, and ideas across borders, has engendered a seismic shift in social matrices. As societies become more interlinked, traditional boundaries and hierarchies have blurred, giving rise to complex, transnational networks of influence and interaction. The article explores how this phenomenon has altered power dynamics, challenging established norms and fostering new paradigms of identity and belonging. Furthermore, the article delves into the profound cultural ramifications of globalization. As globalized media and communication platforms proliferate, cultures are no longer confined to geographic boundaries. This has catalysed a convergence of cultural elements, leading to the emergence of a globalized culture characterized by a fusion of traditions and practices. This paper also scrutinizes the potential for cultural homogenization and the loss of cultural diversity in the face of globalization. Moreover, the article highlights the role of technology in shaping these transformations. The digital age has accelerated the dissemination of cultural products and ideologies, creating both opportunities and challenges. It examines how social media, for instance, has become a powerful tool for cultural exchange but also a breeding ground for cultural clashes and identity politics. In conclusion, this study provides a comprehensive overview of how globalization has reconfigured social matrices and cultural landscapes. This study aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the intricate interplay between globalization, society, and culture in our rapidly changing world.
GLOBALISATION AND CULTURE: ITS IMPACT ON SOCIAL MATRICES

In modern world, the term ‘Globalisation’ is most popular and wide spread. Globalisation is used in different subjects like international relations, sociology, political science and economics and so on. The concept of globalisation is used during the period of 1960. But this term is recognised in academic field in mid of 1980. Today, globalisation is used worldwide. Robertson was pioneer of this term who first formally recognised and defined the term globalisation. He realised to make discourse of modernisation of social science in international perspective. Robertson defines “globalisation as a concept refers both to the compression of the world of the intensification of consciousness of the world as a whole”. Globalisation highlights itself on increasing commerce and trade, military and culture among the states. On the other hand Anthony Giddens expresses his opinion, “..the intensification of the worldwide social relations which link distant localities in such a way that happenings are shaped by events occurring many miles away and vice-versa. Local transformation is as much as a part of globalisation as the lateral extension of social connections across time and space”.
SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE OF STUDENTS IN RELATION TO THEIR EDUCATIONAL ADJUSTMENT

Social intelligence refers to the capacity for dealing with people which includes much of what is popular called personality. Thorndike, a pioneer in advancing Social Intelligence theory, defines it as the ability to understand others and act wisely in human relationships, distinct from academic ability and a critical component in what makes people succeed in life. Social intelligence enables a person to understand what others expect of him or her and thus meet those expectations. It entails a high level of empathy, or the ability to understand how another person feels. Archer (1980) accepts social intelligence as a distinct type of intelligence that consists of the ability to form accurate interpretations about people, their experiences, individual characteristics, relationships, concerns, and emotions. The term adjustment refers to accommodation and adaptation of individuals to the circumstances which they live. It is used to highlight an individual's struggle to fit in or survive in his or her physical and social environment. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between social intelligence and educational adjustment among secondary school students in Siliguri, West Bengal. The findings of the study revealed that while the boys are significantly socially intelligent than girls and more co-operative than the girls; the girls are more sensitive and tactful compared to the boys. It is therefore recommended that parents, educators, social reformers, opinion leaders, politicians, etc should work in tandem to develop social intelligence in our children in the same ethos as we do for their academic intelligence.

CASTE-DIFFERENTIALS IN FEMALE WORK-PARTICIPATION: A DISTRICT-LEVEL ANALYSIS FOR RURAL WEST BENGAL

Women’s participation in economic activities not only determines the women’s autonomy and empowerment but also helps them to be exposed to the outside world. Meanwhile, the nature and type of work for women in today’s worlds are changing and vary across regions. Using data from 2011 census of India, this paper assessed the caste-differentials in female work-participation in districts of rural West Bengal, India. Specifically, this paper aimed at assessing the differentials in female work participation among scheduled castes (SC), scheduled tribes (ST) and other castes population and, understanding the sex-differentials in work participation within different caste categories at the district level in rural West Bengal. Results showed that the female work participation was found to vary across all castes and all districts. It was relatively higher for ST, compared to SC and other caste categories in almost all the districts under consideration, indicating the fact that ST women are in more advanced position in terms of decision-making and autonomy. Moreover, female work participation amomg ST was found to be higher in the districts of Hoogli, Bardhaman and Puruliya, compared to other districts. The higher work participation of ST women in these districts was, possibly, due to availability and accessibility of work opportunity in agriculture and different public sector projects and due to migration in these districts.

‘ডক্টর ডেথ’ নামে পরিচিত ডাক্তার জেমস গ্রিগসনকে নিয়ে একটি চলচ্চিত্র নির্মাণের উদ্দেশ্যে গবেষণাকালীন সময়ে, চলচ্চিত্র নির্মাতা এরল মরিস ১৯৭৬ সালের ডালাস পুলিশ অফিসার রবার্ট ডাব্লিউ উডকে গুলি করে হত্যার মামলাটি নিয়ে আগ্রহী হয়ে উঠেন। কুখ্যাত ডাক্তার জেমস গ্রিগসন ১৬৭টি মামলার সবগুলিতেই মৃত্যুদন্ডের জন্যে সাক্ষ্য দেন। স্বাভাবিকভাবেই তিনি রবার্ট ডাব্লিউ উডকে হত্যার মামলার আসামি র্যান্ডাল ডেল এডামসকে অন্যায়ভাবে মৃত্যুদণ্ডে দণ্ডিত করার জন্যে সাক্ষ্য দেন। চলচ্চিত্র নির্মাতা এরল মরিসের এই মামলাটি সম্পর্কে কৌতূহল জাগলে তিনি এটি নিয়েই একটি চলচ্চিত্র নির্মাণের উদ্যোগ নেন। যেখানে তিনি অনুসন্ধানের মধ্য দিয়ে মামলাটির বিচারিক কার্যের বিভিন্ন ত্রুটি, অসঙ্গতি এবং ফাঁক-ফোঁকর খুঁজে বের করেন। যার ফলস্বরূপ, বিচারিক কার্য পুনর্মূল্যায়নের মাধ্যমে ১৯৮৯ সালে র্যান্ডাল ডেল এডামসের দণ্ডাদেশ বাতিল করা হয় এবং তিনি যে নির্দোষ তা চুড়ান্তভাবে প্রমাণিত হয়। অন্যদিকে, মামলার মূল সন্দেহভাজন ব্যক্তি ডেভিড হ্যারিসের অপরাধও এই চলচ্চিত্র অনুসন্ধানের মাধ্যমে প্রমাণ করে। চলচ্চিত্র নির্মাতা এরল মরিস প্রমাণ করেন, কিভাবে চলচ্চিত্র অনুসন্ধানের মাধ্যমে একটি বিচারিক কার্যের রায় পরিবর্তন করে সত্য উদঘাটন করতে পারে। এছাড়া, এরল মরিস ‘দ্যা থিন ব্লু লাইন’ বাক্যটির মাধ্যমে ‘নৈরাজ্যের অপর প্রান্তে একজন প্রতিরক্ষামূলক পুলিশ সদস্যের বিদ্রূপাত্মক, পৌরাণিক’ একটি চিত্র তুলে ধরতে চেয়েছেন। দ্যা থিন ব্লু লাইন চলচ্চিত্রের মাধ্যমে এরল মরিস বিচারিক কার্যের ভুল- ত্রুটি অনুসন্ধানের মাধ্যমে উপরিতলে থাকা ঘটনার গভীরে লুকিয়ে থাকা সত্যকে বের করা এবং বিচারিক কার্য পুনর্মূল্যায়নের যে গল্প বিশ্বকে দেখিয়েছেন তার প্রভাব যাচাই এই গবেষণার প্রধান লক্ষ্য। অন্য সব দেশের মতো বাংলাদেশের ক্ষেত্রেও পর্যাপ্ত অনুসন্ধানের অভাবে ভুল বিচার কার্যের অসংখ্য উদাহরণ রয়েছে। সে ক্ষেত্রে সঠিক তথ্য, সঠিক সত্য খুঁজে বের করে এসকল বিচার কার্যের পুনর্মূল্যায়নের জন্য অনুসন্ধান অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। এছাড়া, চলচ্চিত্র এমন একটি মাধ্যম যা মানুষের মন পরিবর্তন এবং জনমতকে প্রভাবিত করার ক্ষমতা রয়েছে। এরল মরিস নির্মিত ‘দ্য থিন ব্লু লাইন’ চলচ্চিত্রটি দর্শকদের বিচার ব্যবস্থা সম্পর্কে সমালোচনামূলকভাবে চিন্তা করতে এবং অনেক ক্ষেত্রেই সংস্কারের দাবি করতে অনুপ্রাণিত করবে। যা বিচার প্রক্রিয়াকে আরও ন্যায্য এবং ন্যায়সঙ্গত করে তুলতে সহযোগিতা করতে পারে। ‘দ্য থিন ব্লু লাইন চলচ্চিত্র: বিচারিক কার্য পুনর্মুল্যায়নে অনুসন্ধানের প্রভাব’ গবেষণা কর্মটির বিষয়বস্তু এবং পরিচালনার উদ্দেশ্য বর্তমান সময়ের জন্য যৌক্তিক।

This article aims to explore the intersection of culinary convergence influenced by globalization and sustainability in the context of food culture and social dining. It further delves into the intricate relationship between globalization and food culture, with a particular focus on how globalization has reshaped the culinary traditions and transformed dining experience. Food has long been regarded as a potent medium of expression of cultural identity through which customs, traditions, values and histories are communicated. However, in a rapidly globalizing world, culinary traditions are undergoing significant transformations. As cultures come into contact with each other, they interact, assimilate, accommodate and evolve a global pattern of food culture where the impact of globalization is palpable. The globalization of food culture has ushered in a new era of culinary exploration, where diverse flavors, ingredients and cooking techniques converge on the plates and satiates gastronomy. It is a phenomenon influenced by globalization, migration, and the exchange of culinary knowledge, often leading to the creation of new and innovative dishes that incorporate elements from multiple culinary traditions. Simultaneously, sustainability has emerged as a critical concern in the food industry, challenging culinary practices to be environmentally responsible and socially conscious. Chefs and consumers are becoming more attuned to environmental and ethical considerations. The study further explores the complex interplay between globalization, food culture and social dynamics. It highlights both the positive aspects of cultural fusion in food and the challenges of preserving culinary heritage in an increasingly globalised world. While globalization has brought about exciting culinary innovations and opportunities for cross-cultural exchange, it also raises important questions about the preservation of cultural authenticity and the potential loss of the unique culinary heritage.
